Key Responsibilities of a PHC Officer
As the PHC Officer, you will be responsible for many important tasks. Your main job will be to support the day-to-day activities at health centers in Kaga, Mobbar, and other areas outside of Maiduguri. Some of your key duties will include:
• Improving Health Services: You will make sure that the quality of health services at the centers is good. This includes helping with the management of diseases and making sure that newborns and children get the care they need.
• Building Capacity: You will train and mentor the healthcare workers already in the health facilities. This will be done through on-the-job training to help them improve their skills. You will also help train Community Health Workers.
• Managing Supplies and Equipment: You will oversee the management of medicines, medical supplies, and other equipment. You will help with documentation to make sure that everything is in order and that all equipment is working well.
• Leading Outreach Services: You will work with the Ministry of Health staff to provide important healthcare services to communities that are far away from the health centers. This will involve leading health outreach programs.
• Data and Reporting: You will help with the process of reporting on the progress of health programs. You will also assist in developing new program strategies and work plans.
• Working with the Community: You will work closely with community leaders and other organizations to build good relationships and make sure that health activities are running well at the community level. You will also represent Save the Children in meetings with the government and other groups.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education
To be considered for this job, you must meet the following requirements:
Education: You must have a Medical Degree (MB, BS; MB, BCh) or a degree in Nursing and Midwifery from a recognized university in Nigeria.
License and Experience: You must have a valid practicing license and your NYSC certificate. You need at least three years of experience after graduation. Previous experience working with other NGOs is an added advantage.
Computer Skills: You must be computer literate and have a good understanding of Microsoft Office programs like Word and Excel.
Language Skills: You must be fluent in both English and Hausa, both when speaking and writing.
Soft Skills: You need to have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team, and have the ability to work independently with little supervision. You must also be adaptable and able to manage your work well.
